  DEP Vacancies

When applying for one of the vacancies advertised on the LEC Support web pages you will also find information about the level of security vetting required. In the case of child care settings you will also see if CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) clearance is required. The different categories of clearance are explained below.

The sensitivity of the unit and the level of protectively marked information to which the employee may have access determine the level of security vetting to be applied to an individual seeking employment.

The levels of checks and security clearances appropriate to British and Commonwealth dependant LECs include the following:

Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS)
Category 3 (Cat3)
Category 4 (Cat4)
Disclosure Scotland Checks (DSC) for Category 3 (Enhanced)
Counter Terrorist Check (CTC)
Security Check (SC)
Developed Vetting (DV)

Important for Dependants joining the Head of Family in Germany who wish to take up employment.

If you will be looking for employment in Germany as a Dependant and have not lived in either the UK or Germany for a minimum of 5 years then you MUST bring a Police Good Conduct Certificate with you from your country of origin. This will be required as part of the vetting process. It will be far easier to apply for and obtain the document before leaving home and speed up the vetting process, thereby also increasing the chances of taking up employment!

Referees and References

As mentioned on our main vetting introduction page you will be asked to provide names and addresses of referees (not relatives or friends) who will be able to provide references for you. In order to speed up the process and avoid delays it is essential that you provide this information covering the last 3 years for the vetting process and 5 years for CRB checks. If you were not employed during this 3 or 5 year period then details from a professional such as your GP or someone of equivalent standing in the community would also be suitable.

Employment on the German Economy

All DELs (Directly Employed Labour - all those working for the British Forces on the German economy) are also required to undergo specific BFG (British Forces Germany) security checks and must therefore complete a BFG F28.

A Police Character Certificate (known as a Polizeiliches Führungszeugnis in German) will also be required. This certificate can be applied for through the local German authorities. The individual will be required to pay a fee for it. It may take several days to arrive.

DEL Locally Employed Civilians are not normally employed in Developed Vetting (DV) posts. Applications for individuals to fill DV posts will be considered on a case by case basis however. To obtain SC Clearance the applicant will require a British Passport.

A list of the different types of forms requiring completion for Vetting/CRB clearance can be found by clicking here.
